Unlike Dublin, which has a large and lively music scene, San José and Silicon Valley in general have little to offer. All the blame cannot be placed on the city government, of course. The invasion of Skubrats, or in reverse Starbucks, has put many small music venues out of business. However, the attitude of the city is in general opposed to live music and other performing arts. It's a pity that the sister city program does not seem to have resulted in San José actually learning anything from its sister city.
It's naturally the arts that are not supported by large media conglomerates or government grants that suffer the worst. And of course that means folk music. As the number of public venues for folk music in Silicon Valley continues to shrink, the need for house concerts is increasing.
We have space in our home which we make available for small house concerts from time to time. (Please note that we are not organizing or promoting these concerts, just providing the space.)
We intend that these concerts specialize in traditional music only.
The frequency of these concerts is very irregular. Sometimes we have quite a few in a short time, then none at all for months.
Our house is located in the Rosegarden neighbourhood of San José.
